The legendary designer and fashion icon, Oscar de la Renta has died at the age of 82. For five decades he graced us with beautiful pieces of clothing and dressed many movie stars and singers. It is safe to say that the fashion world is in mourning.
The cause of the designer’s death as announced by close family friends was not clear. He was diagnosed with cancer back in 2006, but last year he assured was he was very much clean and healthy.
Many celebrities acted quickly to this announcement, taking it out to twitter to show their appreciation for the late designer. One of the first ones to send in their tweets was the popular singer Taylor Swift.‘My all-time favorite designer has passed away. Oscar, it was an honor to wear your creations and to know you. In loving memory,’ she tweeted, accompanying the tweet with an Instagram post of her wearing his gown in May, for the Costume Institute Gala in New York.
Movie stars, singers and models weren’t the only ones who enjoyed de la Renta’s designs, he was widely recognized after dressing the first lady, Jacqueline Kennedy. And since then, he hadn’t stopped, he dressed Betty Ford, Nancy Reagan, Laura Bush and even her daughter Jenna, Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama was added to the rooster earlier this month.
Oscar de la Renta’s last work was designing the wedding dress for George Clooney’s fiancée, now wife Amal Clooney who had only words of praise for the designer.“George and I wanted a wedding that was romantic and elegant, and I can’t imagine anyone more able than Oscar to capture this mood in a dress.”The dress was worn on September 27th in Venice. The new bride further said about her encounter with Oscar de la Renta: “Meeting him made the design process all the more magical, as he is so warm and such a gentleman.”
