Last night celebrities partied it up in Scotland for the first time after the ceremony was held in Edinburgh back in 2003. Nicki Minaj, 31, was the one to take the reins as the host of the 20th annual MTV EMA awards. Just as one could expect from the EMA awards, this year was no exception to crazy outfits featuring feathers, glitter and leotards and playsuits.
And since the awards were placed in Scotland, at the SSE Hyrdro in Glasgow to be exact, it was no surprise to see not one but two kilts, worn by Baywatch star David Hasselhoff and Red Flo from the LMFAO duo, currently on hiatus. The ones who had the most to celebrate were Britain’s very own mega popular group, One Direction who managed to snatch three awards.
The Anaconda singer served not only as the host for the night, but also as a two time nominee and as a performer. The superstar also changed her outfits eight times during the shows, donning different styles ranging from monochromatic outfits to super short dresses, golf themed and a gown. Nicki performed a medley of Super Bass, Anacoda which is all the rage now, and her new song Bed of Lies featuring Skylar Grey. For the performance she donned a two piece with a sheer playsuit over it. Nicki also managed to get a hold of the best hip hop act, beating big names like Eminem, Kanye West, Drake and Iggy Azalea. But, lost the Best Female to fellow Bang Bang singer, Ariana Grande.
Speaking of the Problem singer, Ariana shocked us all when she got to the red carpet without her trademark ponytail, instead she wore her hair down. The singer revealed in an interview that letting her hair down made her feel naked. Still, even with a different hairstyle the famous singer managed to turn heads in a Michael Kors maxi dress. The 21 year old was also one of the performers of the night and just like Nicki, she decided to go with a medley, consisting of Problem and Break Free.
The other performers of the night included Alicia Keys, Charli XCX, U2, Ed Sheeran, Royal Blood and Kiesza. This year, the trend seemed to be not going to the awards as Katy Perry, One Direction and Beyoncé, to name a few accepted their awards via satellite. The biggest surprise of the night was definitely when the Worldwide Act got in the hands of the Chinese singer and songwriter Bibi Zhou as she won over One Direction.
