Ken Ehrlich, the executive producer of the 57th Grammy Awards promised a great night for all those watching in front of the screen as well as the attendees and he made sure to deliver. The awards night was hosted by rapper LL Cool J for the fourth consecutive time at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The biggest winners of the night were undoubtedly Sam Smith and Beck who took four and three awards respectively. Yesterday with the Oscar’s of music presented in 83 categories, it’s time to give the recap of music’s biggest night.

Sam Smith

When it came to performances, everything was top notch from the outfits, the stage and of course the performers themselves. We were able to see newcomers like Hozier collaborating with legends such as Annie Lennox. Beyoncé put her everything out there as she performed a gospel with a choir behind her.

Needless to say she looked stunning in her white gown as she sung “Take My Hand, Precious Lord”. Madonna showed everyone that she was still the queen of pop and that being 56 years old didn’t mean that she couldn’t put on a show. Kanye West made a comeback at the Grammy awards stage after several years of absence and while he started off alone, Sir Paul McCartney and Rihanna joined him later on to perform their new song “FourFiveSeconds”. Other performances included performers like Ariana Grande, ACDC, Tony Bennett and Lady Gage.

Sam Smith definitely had the night of his life as he managed to snatch four awards including the one he was hoping to receive, for the Best New Artist, but that was only the beginning. Later on he received the awards for Best Pop Vocal Album, Song of the Year and Record of the Year and he even got to collaborate with veteran Mary J. Blige as the two sang Smith’s hit song “Stay With Me”. The British artist made sure to thank his parents while he promised that he wouldn’t cry that night.

Beck who was the other biggest winner of the night almost experienced a Kanye moment when he was called to stage to accept the Album of the Year award. The rock veteran even tried calling the rapper back to stage when he turned around to leave without interrupting him like he did Taylor Swift back in 2009. Later on Kanye told the press that the award was supposed to go to Beyoncé.

Katy Perry

The surprise of the night had to be when activist Brooke Axtell came to the stage, serving as an intro for Katy Perry’s performance “By the Grace of God”. Axtell gave a talk about her experience with abuse, trying to reach those who have suffered to give them strength and to help them acknowledge what they’re worth.”Authentic love does not devalue another human being.

Authentic love does not silence shame or abuse. If you are in a relationship with someone who does not honor and respect you, I want you to know that you are worth of love. Please reach out for help. Your voice will save you. Let it extend into the night. Let it part the darkness. Let it set you free to know who you truly are: valuable, beautiful, loved.”

When it came to the red carpet looks, the stars showcase different looks from unique to weird, classy and daring. Here are our choices for the best and worst dressed celebrities:

Rocker Chic Gwen Stefani surprised us when she didn’t wear her signature red lipstick and instead chose a nude colored one. It was a refreshing change and she still managed to look amazing in her black Atelier Versace jumpsuit. Black seemed to be the go-to color of the night and other stars who went on that path and owned it include Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj and Anna Kendrick who decided to go with a black tux and pointy heels look.

Katy Perry opted for a classy look while she bared her back in Zuhair Murad Couture, her purple hair was a plus as it made the whole outfit stand out even more and that is meant in a good way.

Taylor Swift looked divine in her blue sparkly ombre gown made by designer Elie Saab. She broke the outfit with fuchsia heels and it worked wonderfully.

Helen Lasichanh didn’t seem to get the memo that she was going to high profile awards ceremony. Maybe she was returning from the gym and only had the time to grab a pair of black heels to pair up with a grey Adidas one-piece, that’s right, Adidas as in sports brand.

Ever since she married Kanye West, Kim Kardashian rarely did wrong when it came to fashion, but the Grammy awards seemed to be an exception. While she was wearing Jean Paul Gaultierthat didn’t mean she looked good in it. Her dress was more like a sparkly robe than anything else.

We are accustomed to Sia not revealing her face as she wants people to focus on her music, however, that doesn’t mean that people will stop talking about her. And when you wear a wig as big as Sia’s was, you don’t get unnoticed. It could be that she was challenging her inner Cousin It from the Addams Family as she was joined by Maddie, the star of Chandelier and Elastic Heart music videos.

Charli XCX was another no for us. Yes, her hair and makeup were on spot and she looked good while wearing her shinny white tuxedo and the pink bowtie was a nice way to accessorize the outfit, but the baby pink faux fur was not something we were proud of. Yes, she definitely looked interesting, but unfortunately it’s still a no.
