The higher lead has McConaughey, he is probably the front-runner and this will be an impressive addition to his Oscar that he won earlier this year.
But he needs to face a good competition from – The Newsroom’s Jeff Daniels, Mad Men’s Jon Hamm, House of Cards’ Kevin Spacey, Woody Harrelson and his True Detective costar. For the third time Julia Louis-Dreyfus got her nomination for comedy actress thanks to her work in HBO’s political satire Veep. In the last two years she has won the prize.
She will need to go against Melissa McCarthy (Mike & Molly), Lena Dunham (Girls), Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie), and also the newcomers Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation) and Taylor Schilling (Orange Is the New Black). Peter Dinklage is returning nominee. He won for the role in Game of Thrones as Tyrion Lannister in 2011 and this year he is coming off from one of the best season of the series.
Peter Dinklage will compete with Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad, The Good Wife’s Josh Charles (RIP, Will Gardner), Homeland’s Mandy Patinkin and Downton Abbey’s Jim Carter (Mr. Carson!),. Under the category of leading actress in a drama, The Good Wife’s Julianna Margulies, House of Cards’ Robin Wright, Homeland’s Claire Danes and Scandal’s Kerry Washington and newcomer Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex) will compete against Downton’s Michelle Dockery.
